"The Park Hill Experience"

While Denver in the Civil Rights era may not have had quite the difficulties seen in the South, Denver's African Americans still faced issues such as segregation and busing. One of the places where this was most prevalent was in the Park Hill Neighborhood. (For the history, see the Story of Park Hill from the Denver Public Library's Creating Communities website). For anyone researching civil rights issues in Denver, an essential publication is The Park Hill Experience, published by the Colorado Civil Rights Commission in 1974. This state document, available from our library, traces the civil rights history of this Denver neighborhood as it transitioned from all white to integrated neighborhood, opening up new opportunities for African Americans.
